Brazil’s Aneel okays construction of 600-MW solar complex

October 14 (Renewables Now) – Brazilian energy company Rio Alto Energias Renovaveis SA recently received the go-ahead from power sector watchdog Aneel for the construction of 600 MW of solar power plants in Paraiba state.

To be comprised of 12 photovoltaic (PV) parks, each with an individual capacity of 50 MW, the complex will require an investment of BRL 2.4 billion (USD 435m/EUR 376m), the agency estimates.

According to Aneel’s general director Andre Pepitone, Paraiba can expect BRL 10 billion of solar investments by 2026.

At present, Rio Alto’s portfolio consists of more than 1.8 GW, including operational and under development projects. Together, these assets represent an investment of over BRL 3 billion in the Northeastern states of Paraiba and Pernambuco, the company states on its website.
